"Distance Obedience" means that the dog obeys obedience commands even when their handler is not in close proximity. This course expands upon the Basic Obedience class taught by Tanya. Students will focus on learning the two kinds of distance training: "stay" and "asking" distance and will learn to obey both verbal commands and visual/hand cues from up to 20 feet away. The goal is to have a dog who looks to their handler for cues even at a long distance and has the confidence to obey commands in place and without traveling closer to their handler or source of reward. Dogs will also work on developing a solid "recall".
WHAT TO BRING:
Clicker, treat bag, 6-foot leash, 20 foot leash
All dogs must have a solid knowledge of the basic commands "sit" and "down" and the ability to focus on their handler in a group setting. No dog-aggressive dogs will be admitted to this class.
