THE FIRST STREET OBEDIENCE CLASS WILL MEET AT BLUECOLLAR
Each class thereafter will meet at a separate location in the vicinity of Echo Park.
We HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you take Pack Leadership 101 before taking this course. Pack Leadership 101 is a lecture on canine ethology and behavior that will give you the understanding, knowledge and tools needed to communicate effectively with your dog. Those who take the course will be ahead of the class pack, so to speak, and will get much more out of Street Obedience.
STREET OBEDIENCE is an INTERMEDIATE obedience class and is for dogs who already perform the basic commands (focus, sit, stay, down, come) and are ready to take their training into an environment of heavy distraction.....THE REAL WORLD. This class focuses on "the pack walk" and the classroom is the STREET. The mission is to master your dogs (and your own) distractions, urges and stresses. The goal is to make your dog into a "take anywhere" type of dog. The reward is more freedom for both you and your dog.
This is a mixed method class involving the use of treat rewards, lavish praise and leash-corrections. All dogs will be evaluated for eligibility at the first class. For this class you will need a treat bag, high-value treats, a six foot standard leash, a choke chain, pinch collar or flat collar, and a phone book wrapped in duct tape (to teach "place"). No harnesses, head-collars, flexible leashes or zip lines. You may bring a clicker if you use one (or want to learn to use one). Materials/tools will be further discussed at the first class. Each dog can have 1 or 2 handlers but no more than 1 dog per person. Class size is limited to 8 dogs per class.
WHAT TO BRING
A six foot leash, a collar of your choice (no harnesses), a easy-open, quick-draw treat bag, a minimum of 80 pea-sized, high value, soft treats and a clicker if you use one or would like to learn.
We believe that every dog has the right to receive training so they can lead happy, adventurous lives. We gladly welcome all dogs and do not discriminate. If your dog poses a danger or threat towards other dogs or humans, we may require private training sessions or special management techniques before admitting your dog into a group class. We require that your dog be vaccinated. Since dogs easily pick up on "vibes", we also require that all humans be respectful towards fellow humans and canines when in class:)
